A few tips for leflet delievering

Last night I donned my walking boots, grabbed a thick coat, had one last cup of hot coffee and then said my goodbyes to my family as I opened the door on to the freezing dark night. Why was I doing this? that was exactly the same question I was asking myself at the time, however I kept hold to the thought in the back of my mind that this was for some good purpose and that even though this small action I was about to undertake might make no difference, the fact that many other people like me were doing this might make all the difference! that’s right, I was delivering leaflets to houses.

I found myself committed to this practice about a year ago when, in an attempt to get more active in a political party and having finally decided that the liberal democrats probably most supported my views (and were the party in power in the area anyway), I signed up to help out. In this short period of time I have come up with my essential tips for leafleting.

1. Remember why your doing it.

When you get back from work and remember that tonight is one of few nights you have off…and yet is also one of the few opportunities you have to deliver your leaflets its important that you bear in mind why your doing, why you think it will make a difference and what that difference will be, otherwise it might be all to easy to put it of!

2. wrap up warm!

In the current weather wrapping up warm isn’t just a good idea, its necessary! If you can’t feel your fingers it will make posting leaflets a lot harder! It might also result in more crumpled and generally dishevelled leaflets, which doesn’t look to professional!

3. Be careful of letter boxes!

Certain letter boxes have been designed to damage your fingers as much as possible and at the same time make it as difficult as they can to post your leaflet through. Although this is a slightly silly point there are some really dangers, I know of people who have lost finger tips and been cut via dangerous letter boxes, and that doesn’t even take into account dangerous dogs as well!

4. Gloves are amazing!

Not only are gloves great for keeping warm, they can also protect your fingers from the dangerous letter boxes…however they might also get trapped in the dangerous letter box!

5. Be friendly

If your out and about your representing your party, often the impression they have from local members leaves an imprint. If you have only met a grumpy deliver from party X and never met any of the other representatives then it might be that last little factor they need to vote for someone else.

Anyway I must be off but please feel free to add any other suggestions in the comments and i’ll add them and attribute them to you!
