Today there was massive success in an anti trafficking raid against a Romania trafficking gang. What made this raid such a land mark and so successful was the level of co-operation between the metropolitan police force, Interpol and the Romania police. A real sign of things to come with the hope that more joint operations and sharing of intelligence will lead to further co-operation, more effective anti-trafficking force and more prosecutions, which is exactly what a recent home office report recommended.
Its pretty common sense really if we don’t share intelligence and keep our own knowledge of trafficking to ourselves then we won’t be able to deal with trafficking. It also makes no seance to try and re locate victims of trafficking (most of whom are tricked into their situation) with out trying to stop those who perpetrate such crimes and to improve the situation in those countries so that other groups don’t rise up.
Stopthetraffik has some very interesting statistics about human trafficking and its explosion in growth. It is definitely a problem that is growing and need to have action needed to be taken for the best of everyone involved. Sending victims straight back to their country is not necessarily the right action, in many cases the people who have lead to their trafficking are known to them and to send them straight back would lead to them being trafficked again sometimes to the exact same location sometimes for a different one where the policing might be worse.
However this logic seams to have been lost in the BNP’s reporting of the incident, according this is an outrage as it has cost our tax payers money, it suggests that Roma family’s are to blame and not the traffickers, it suggest that those who are trafficked are mainly for begging (despite the fact that 79% are victims of sexual trafficking), it also suggests that leaving the EU would solve this problem of being dependent on letting traffickers in (despite the fact that the majority of victims actually come from Africa). These statement completely fly in the face of every report ever conducted into human trafficking and its victims.
I am certain that we should all celebrate this co-operation between our policing forces and wish the best for all the victims who have been freed from this trafficking ring, weather they be in England or back home. I hope any one from the BNP who ends up on my website will do the same.
