I’m sure many Lib Dem’s are salivating over the Guardian offically backing the Lib Dem’s and being honest I don’t complain. however I do wonder if we are missing a different possibly even bigger story.
The general assumption is that you back the party that you most ideologically match, which sometimes changes over time for both party and paper! However over the last few weeks there have been a variety of articles that have been quite critical of the Lib Dems and their policies. Yet they are backing us. (admittedly there have also been positive ones too)
Perhaps this is actually a sign that the guardian has noticed that labour are behind the Lib Dems in the polls. That Labour is the most unpopular it has been in my life time. Perhaps the guardian is actually trying to attract more Lib Dem’s as readers rather than actually finding itself ideologically closer to the Libs.
Just a thought

Possibly you are right to be cynical about this. They certainly too their time to make up their minds. Still, I welcome their endorsement even if it is perhaps a little opportunist on their part.

I’m not saying its certain but it is an interesting thought.
The timing actually might help the bandwagon, its after all the debates so its almost “having waited to make certain” rather than coming out straight after the first one which would seam quiet temperamental. I do welcome it though, I have bought the guardian for a while.

Absolutely! I wish the Indie would do the same, but they have to stay… er … Independent!
I think they secretly do support us though.
